After the announcement of SteamOS, Valve has revealed part two of it’s push into the living room space – Steam Machines. From the start of next year, multiple SteamOS systems will be available from different manufacturers. All ranging in different price with different configurations and performance.
Also announced is a beta test for Valve’s own high performance prototype. Valve will be shipping 300 of the prototype to Steam users for free to test their performance. Check out the details below on how to make yourself eligible. Specifications wasn’t revealed in the announcement but they said it has the ability to be upgraded.
Before October 25, log in to Steam and then visit your quest page to track your current status towards beta test eligibility:
- Join the Steam Universe community group
- Agree to the Steam Hardware Beta Terms and Conditions
- Make 10 Steam friends (if you haven’t already)
- Create a public Steam Community profile (if you haven’t already)
- Play a game using a gamepad in Big Picture mode
At the end of the announcement, Valve has also hinted a hint about possibly a brand new input device – maybe a Valve controller? Which they ended with “more to say very soon on this topic of input”. Maybe the next and final announcement is a controller reveal.
So what do you guys think?
